Terms of Use
The short version
HandyNotes is provided free of charge, as-is. You own your notes. If you choose to donate handwriting samples for research, you're licensing those specific samples to the project — nothing else. There's no warranty, and by using the app you accept the usual limits on liability.
The app
HandyNotes is provided free of charge and "as is," without warranty of any kind, express or implied — including, without limitation, warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. I make a good-faith effort to keep it working well, but I can't guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for every use.
Your notes
You own everything you create in HandyNotes — your notebooks, strokes, images, and any content you import. Nothing you write is uploaded anywhere unless you explicitly opt into the research donation feature described in the Privacy Policy.
Research donations
If you opt in to donate handwriting samples, you grant a license to use, reproduce, and publish those specific samples under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0), effective at the moment each sample is uploaded. This license applies only to the samples you actively choose to send — not to your notebooks or any other content.
No warranty
HandyNotes is offered without any warranty. Use it at your own discretion, and keep your own backups of anything important — see the Support page for how iCloud backup works.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, HandyNotes and its developer are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including loss of data, loss of notes, or any other loss, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of GOVERNING_LAW, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the update will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
